Hi Harriet, I finally had the courage to paint this card. So happy with it! This is a special card for my neighbour who lost her mother two days before Christmas. I really enjoyed this tutorial, thank you so much!

I've never painted in watercolor before. I was determined though and bought two sets of watercolors (waiting for the inspiration).

Three months later and here I am. I painted this scene. Looks nothing like yours but I don't care. I started it and finished it in a few hours...my husband loves it.

YAY 😁 a happy painting experience indeed.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!!

THANK YOU FROM THE USA...

I made about 15 watercolor Christmas cards of landscapes and it was so fun and rewarding, and I’ve gotten some good feedback from some of the receivers of them.

OK. I made the 4 Christmas trees for my son and husband to choose for our cards. Except they happened to see this painting too and convinced me to make this one instead. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I am up to 20 cards, making them 4 at a time on 10”x14” paper, taped into four sections, then cutting them card sized - the final size is perfect for A7 cards. I will print and paste my Christmas family events poem on the back, which I should make them do since I will be busy painting! Did I mention we usually send out about 80 cards? I just keep reminding myself that I am getting a whole bunch of brush miles with this wet on wet blending technique. Right! Wish me luck. LOL! I am trying to make a dent before we start the advent calendar. So excited to start that! 😃🤩

Love this scene! If you wanted to darken the sky, would you wet the whole thing with clean water and do another wet on wet layer with all the same colors? Or would you just drop in some of the darkest shade?

Jean Kellner

Wow, that was beautiful. I love the simplicity and elegance of it. I have so much trouble with evergreens. It looks so easy, but I sometimes get my central line slightly askew, and then when I look at the few I've created, they look as though the wind has blown them slightly left. Or, the worse problem is when I get them too wide too close to the top even though I tell myself to keep narrow. LOL. Whoever thought a simple shape would present such a challenge. Shows you my level as an artist and watercolorist. :) Thanks for the lesson, and now while it is fresh in my mind, I am going to practice!

As we learn to read and write in the left-right orientation, us lefties are often at a disadvantage when using any kind of wet medium, we fall foul of the dreaded smudge! However, on the flipside, it's thought we tend to be rather creative :) Lovely work - going to try this one.

Such a lovely simple design. I had a bad morning (I poured water into my coffee bean grinder instead of the water receptacle. After an hour or so of cleaning and drying things are ok again) and just watching you create this painting (with a fresh cup of decaf) it helped calm me down as well as inspire me. Thanks so much for sharing and teaching us how to make your beautiful watercolors.❤️

HARRIET, THAT IS A LOVELY CARD AND SO EASY TO DO TOO!!! MINE SKY DIDN'T COME OUT ANYWHERE CLOSE TO THE COLORS YOU HAVE IN YOUR TUTORIAL. 😢
MY ONLY TWO ISSUES ARE THE BACKGROUND MUSIC, MY GOSH IT IS SO VERY DISTACTING! THE OTHER IS WHEN YOU WERE PAINTING THE NIGHT SKY, YOU DID SORT OF GO OVER WHAT COLORS YOU WERE MIXING UP IN YOUR PALLET BUT ONCE YOU STARTED TO PUT THE PAINT ON PAPER YOU WEREN'T AS CLEAR ON WHICH COLOR MIXES YOU WERE USING JUST AS YOU DID WHEN YOU WENT INTO THE PAINT FOR THE TREES. OTHERWISE, THANK YOU FOR THIS LOVELY TUTORIAL.
