I spent like $200 on my 3yo daughter this year, and my mom unexpectedly spent like $300 on her, so we had soooooo many presents 🎁

No one person needs that many gifts! Our family does 4 gifts ( Something you want, something to read, something to wear and something you need!)

My parents grew up very poor..depression era poor. We never had big birthday parties or got toys here or there like kids do today. My school clothes consisted of skirts that could be worn to church. But at Christmas time we got our toys. There would be the one big gift. And lots of smaller ones..which might be coloring books, Barbie, metal cars...mostly dollar store items. But it was fun seeing that pile if 10-15 presents. My parents loved Christmas and giving...even if it was a dish towel set. They both worked and my Mom would buy stuff throughout the year to have for Christmas. They wanted us to have what they never did. And they both were creative too. Both quilted. Our favorite gifts as adults were things they handmade for us. So I can understand the first family. People who have money go out and get what they want each day. When you don't have money...it's the only time of year that you get something that's special and not just practical. But we were taught to be thankful too. Something that some of the other children in the video seem to have forgotten.

I have an idea, donate half of those ridiculous amount of presents to kids who have nothing. It's even more fun when you bring them to them in person.

I got some pretty cool presents this year like a crockpot, spice rack and some boots but my favorite present was this beautiful blue Bible my husband gifted me. Goodness so beautiful and I cannot stop reading it and touching it haha. I don’t get mindless presents, quality over quantity is the trick.

We always got presents for Christmas. Not by any means as many as these people. Holy cow!! That's totally ridiculous! But we were grateful for what we got. The things I remember most are being with my family and baking cookies with my dear Mom and then Dad trying a sample of each kind we made. We made up little boxes of the cookies and gave them to friends and neighbors. I sure miss those fun days with my family. Times have changed.

Treating your family is great but giving 80-90 gifts to each kid is overkill. Too much and most of it will be tucked away somewhere never to be used or enjoyed. I think these kids will grow up with a warped sense of gift giving and will never be truly happy in life as adults because life will always have to be topped and topped year after year. Nobody outside of family will measure up unless you can continue their parents level of gift giving. Sad!

My Mom used to buy entirely too many presents for my 2 nieces. One year, the last year she went overboard, she mailed 27 boxes from Virginia to Indiana. PLUS, we have 3 large boxes in the car. My brother stored the boxes in his garage, made my Mom return most of them. It was a difficult and stressful time for everyone. After that year, he gave her a 5 present limit for each girl. That year, I started "helping" and Christmas has been so much nicer.

Anna Wilson Equestrian

Meanwhile, there’s me over here getting my family of 9 dollar store candy and gift box sets from Goodwill and wrapping them in newspapers. I think I spent $60 total for everything this Christmas.

This is disgusting. There are many people who would be happy for just a decent meal. She is setting up her kids for big failures in life.. Their expectations will be way out of line with the real world. I feel sorry for the poor guys that marry them. Very sad.

This is totally ridiculous! When our four kids were little, we bought them three gifts each. Now that they are all adults, we have a “secondhand thriftmas” and we just celebrated our second year doing it. We draw a name and rules!: $25-30 spending limit! All gifts are secondhand...if someone would like something in its original state OR can it be repurposed? We have had so much fun! I purchased a sofa table for $15...sanding and chalk paint, table turned out cute and looks brand new! We have become a throw-away society! We all had fun...heck, we still speak of what we got a couple years ago when we started! Well, I’m so glad this isn’t my household...kinda negates why we truly celebrate Christmas in the first place.

I remember one Christmas where I only got 1 present, a book.
We were a family of 6 and my parents believed Christmas was not about the presents at all, but celebrating the birth of Jesus into the world.
I remember we had an advent tradition leading up to Christmas where my dad would read us passages in the Bible about the Christmas story. We had an advent blanket my grandma made of a large house full of beautiful rooms and there was a little bear on a string with Velcro that we placed in 24 different places on the blanket before he finally found Christmas.
We decorated the tree as a family, and we’d string popcorn and cranberries on thread as we watched Christmas movies. We sang Carols together at night and the best tradition of all was each Christmas Eve, we would put on our play version of the Christmas story. My brother was Joseph, my sister and I would take turns every year being Mary or the Angel...my mom was the shepherd and my baby sister was baby Jesus. You might wonder what role my dad played? He was the donkey who bore the family to Bethlehem. :) It was so much fun! I can’t help smiling when I remember my dad wearing a bridle he made of rope to make us laugh and carrying us on his back and neighing.
Christmas Day morning was spent at church and a meal with grandparents, cousins...there were years I had more presents or less, but my childhood memories of Christmas are all about the warmth and love in my family, those are the values they gave to me.
