Thank you for the recipe! It is very good. However, there is too much sugar in the sauce for my liking. I used half the sugar and butter for the sauce and 150g of dates for the cake but it was still too sweet I think. Next time, I will try 1/3 sugar for the sauce and 100g of dates for the cake.
More to the point, this pudding is absolutely wonderful, rich and creamy. Made for the first time as a Christmas dessert, it went down a storm! It also lasted in the fridge for a week and still tasted as good for New Years day. The sauce just needed reheating in the microwave for pouring. Excellent recipe, Nigella does it again!!
It’s the one thing of a few things I don’t like about christmas, you end up eating too much sugar and it makes you feel weird. We go to our relatives house usually on the 26th or 27th we have champagne as soon as we arrive, and the evening starts off well, there’s lots of us, but then after dinner it’s beer, wine, dessert and Irish coffee and I don’t know weather to sleep or stay up all night. And everyone’s got the sugar rush, sometimes without even knowing it. The conversations become overbearing, then once they end, you sort of look around the room at everyone else in a jaded way, you can sense that any minute someone’s going to call it a night and so you go home full of alcohol, sugar, fat and cream and wonder why you even bothered. It’s not that I dislike christmas, I just hate the way it always turns out. It’s lost it’s magic, adults lose the magic and it’s only fun for kids.
