Just found this channel recently and am very grateful. I have a small pine in a pot, the only info I have is that it is an Arctic Pine.
Are there different techniques of pruning for different pine trees?
Thank you

I was given a cypress for Christmas gift and have no yard to plant it, so Bonsai is a practical solution, so that I can honor the gift and not ignore. I have studied Bonsai before but was afraid of it because not sure of the process, so I appreciate your repetition.

May I ask when is the best time to preform such pruning and wiring? It’s the middle of winter here in NY and I would like to train my spruce to do this but I would like to know when it would be optimal. I also have a Georgia Pine that has swelling like the second tree and I would like to trunk chop it fairly low but I would like advice before I do it so I don’t kill it but I bought it this way with the intention of chopping. I’ve had it 2 seasons already and I’ve been too chicken to chop it already.
Love your videos and I have your book Bonsai Master Class! Would love more info on which seasons to do which steps of pruning, wiring, and potting to make better bonsai 💖🙏🏽

Thank you for this video. This is the most informative video I have seen yet. This cleared up so many questions.

I have been paying too much attention to my houseplants and have done all I can to them during this long quarantine. All 200+ have been repotted and trimmed. They look better than ever. But. I need to start a bonsai or I will go crazy.

Peter, I am a loyal follower of yours. I like how you take your time to show each step. I was wondering. When you repot this tree from the store pot to the bonsai pot, what's the best way to cut back the roots, and yet not traumatize the tree?

Pierre Chavignot
Pierre Chavignot 2 months ago

I love the result but...does the tree likes? for sure, it's a revolution for them, after their boring industrial nursery of formated plants fed up, filling their too small pot for terrasse or balcony. Now they are beautiful, have a story, aeration, and care...... but few plants like my northern balcony, surrounded with concrete, on a smoky noisy avenue.
Many are ill, unhappy to leave the mountain, or are tropical refugees born in snowy Netherland, under plastic, and have to accommodate at mediterraneen shore...
But, in spite of réserve, I'm sure it could be a good alternativ to cuted Christmas with no future than bin, and if the tree loves life and stay at your side like a friend, a couple of years, it was a good deal!
I found Bougainvilliers after a tempest, roots almost naked since few days...i'm not sure I'm a good doctor... but who knows the will of God? In spite of all tutorial I saw or red about Hibiscus, my neighbour on the street, northern exposition too, has a big one 2or3 meters)... blooming all year long... with no sun nor bright light - in front of her balcony, a pass and a hay and little trees obturing the sky... Every one pretend that plant need sun!
Thanks for sharing that quiet moment... sometimes a lot of noise at your place too... here I need wax earplugs to sleep and to forget agressivity of drivers and machines arround...

My Alberta Spruce died recently. It was sent to my mother in law right before she died and I took it home. However I lived in Florida and figured it would never make it. It lasted for three years, growing actually fairly well and then I moved it. A week later it was dead even though I moved it back to the old location.
