I was looking to move to Florida but almost everywhere has an HOA and they want like $200-400 a month! Like for what?! Why anyone on earth would pay a mortgage and a HOA fee for a board of people telling me what I can and can't do with my own house is beyond me. I could never.

Why anyone would live in a HOA neighborhood is beyond me. Nothing more than a scam and people telling you what you can and can't do.

PSA - HOA stands for "Homes Owners Association" which means you have general rights to your property but not unrestricted.

They signed the HOA documents and my guess is they bought into the neighborhood because it was well kept. Is it petty? Yes. Did they violate the rules as agreed to? Yes.

That’s why you should NEVER buy YOUR OWN home in an HOA because at the end of the day it is technically not YOUR home!

Lived near this area in a HOA subdivision. Florida HOAs are By FAR the worst and most controlling! The one we had would threaten us with fines for not scrubbing the rainwater stains that would build up on the driveway, yet ignore the family that didn't speak English across the street from us when they had chickens in the back yard and slaughtered them in their garage with the door open for everyone to see. SMH. HOAs have far too much power. The biggest problem is how they ignore some things and go after some people with prejudice

The lights alone are beautiful but the displays of blowup style decor and the like are actually quite tacky…. lol Our community has people that have their lawns covered in them already and while it’s certainly not an issue to complain about (nobody around here cares) out of curiosity, I just wonder why people do it? Lol It looks sooo bad 😆 But to each their own that’s just my opinion on it . FYI this house has a couple but not to where it’s too bad.

first off id never give up my freedom by living in an HOA. second there is not that many lights that you should have to pay someone to put them up. third if this ever happen to me, on thanksgiving id have so many lights up the neighbors would think it was day time all night until January 15th.

I am the President of my homeowners association. So the lights went up early. Big FU+++++ deal. Vote out those assholes on the board who made it an issue.

Wow, imagine being so well off that instead of decorating the house your self, you pay someone else to put up the lights. Then the gatekeepers of the well off say nah, that’s too early so now send us some of your disposable income as a fine for being too proactive. Maybe it’s that we’re too soft and have it too easy...reminds me of a house near where I grew up that had Christmas lights on all year round, because that is when the husband left for Vietnam but never made it home. He was MIA, so they kept the lights up in case one day he was found. Imagine some asshole HOA fining that family...imagine if we cared for our neighbors and encouraged celebrating what we have instead of punishing people.
